The Department of Earth & Environmental Science (EES) is housed in Hayden Hall, named for Ferdinand Hayden. But who was Hayden? And what was his connection to Penn? The EES community is invited to the annual Hayden Memorial walk on Friday, September 10th. We’ll leave the front steps of Hayden Hall promptly at 3pm, and make our way to Hayden’s grave in nearby Woodlands Cemetery. Along the way, Prof. Alain Plante will provide information on Hayden’s biography Upon arrival at Hayden’s grave, we will toast his accomplishments in geology and natural science, and celebrate the 150th anniversary of his works that led to the creation of Yellowstone National Park.
