I'll introduce the dynamics of a major feature of the Arctic system: the wind-driven Beaufort Gyre, and explore the significant changes currently unfolding in the region.

Mary-Louise Timmermans is the Damon Wells Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Yale University. She received a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Victoria (Canada), and a PhD in Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics from Cambridge University. Her research explores the physics of the Arctic Ocean and climate. She has been recognized with awards such as the American Geophysical Union Sverdrup Award Lecture, the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), and the Yale University Prize for Teaching Excellence in the Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
