Events

Our Department hosts several kinds of events. Geoscience Colloquium is a weekly seminar series given by visiting speakers who are experts in areas in which the Department is active. Geolunch is a brown-bag type of event that takes place on a less regular basis but still rather frequently, and enables the Department’s members, usually PhD students and postdocs, to present their research to the colleagues in an informal atmosphere. Special Seminar encompasses a variety of events that occur less often, such as presentations of PhD theses, Senior Research Conference (poster and oral research presentations by graduating seniors), and the annual Henry Darwin Rogers Lecture delivered by some of the most distinguished thinkers in Earth and environmental science, and named after the first professor in the history of the Department. Geobiology Symposium is a one-day conference that happens each year either at our Department or another institution (usually the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC) and brings together paleontologists, paleobiologists, geobiologists, and geomicrobiologists from the Mid-Atlantic region.

These events are normally open to the public free of charge. If you wish to be regularly informed about our upcoming events, you can ask to be added to the events listserv by emailing the Department’s administrative office. The Water Center also organizes events, which are listed on its own website.
